I make the case that we haven't; over enough generations we just weed out the 'bad' and breed the 'good'. Why domesticate a gorilla?

that's what domestication means. Once you get captive breeding going, you can apply artificial selection pressure.

that's a weaker point. With enough resources and luxury everything is worth domesticating. Dolphins, orcas, cheetahs...

exactly; to your previous point, if you can't get captivity breeding going, no domestication. I also think there is a utility aspect

you just need a big enough pen that it doesn't look like captivity to the subjects.
