5/ It avoids the problem of "content stuffing" where you post crap just to justify monthly fee. If you publish nothing one month, no charge.

Hmm... you're running with it in a different direction. I prefer a simpler model: you can quit anytime without feeling cheated.

Yeah. Being forced to choose between one-time fee vs fixed subscription is basically book vs. magazine thinking ported online

It does leverage the medium to free up the producer AND drive costs down for the consumer
