Dabbling again in web programming after a decade. Same as 2004 CSS seems the most horrifying part of the stack. Am I alone in this opinion?

Preprocessers make it a bit better, but CSS is still horrendous (though CSS3 unlocks more functionality, esp. around animations).

CSS is conquerable but this takes considerable skill and practice. Far better for you to use something like bootstrap or foundation

is css+js is now like assembly language for web; most people use a preproc+transpiler model? But HTML still mostly hand-coded?
