What is the smallest, simplest stack with fewest moving parts you can do something useful in? My guess: SketchUp with Ruby scripts.
...I initially thought it would be JavaScript, but discovered that's a universe unto itself.

@vgr Heh. Just made a minimalist asset mgmt system. Print qrcode, stick on thing, use smartphone to scan qrcode, tie to photo of thing.. -
2/Big diff in mindset when coding to get specific thing done fast/right/works forever, never have to debug. Simplicity becomes mandatory.
