Not to mention the number of poor people who commit suicide, etc. Yes, a few yuppies may get lazy. Doesn't matter at all.

also agree non-market mechanisms probably essential. Just don't think UBI has a strong intellectual case yet. Only empathy case.

Dismantling bureaucracy helps some, eliminating a lot of guard labor helps way more.

Done right, it may also eliminate a some social stigma (with time). Discrimination is a huge drag on quality workforce participation.

"Done right" is what worries me. I think it cannot be, beyond tactical concern of dismantling existing entitlements for this
