My feed is really weird now. All the people I normally interact with are tweeting about either the muskening or the ruggening Everybody else has that peculiar linkedin vibe of obliviousness The intermediate people who seem real, just not in my neck of the woods, are gone/quiet

It’s like being in a cafe where only mutual friends are real, and obsessively caught in one topic vortex, and everybody else is a mannequin. Live strangers or somewhat familiar regulars from whom you might overhear snippets of interesting conversations you’re not in… gone

I think enough interesting adjacent silo people have taken their silo conversations to mastodon or something that I’m left with Swiss cheese Twitter-twitter + SBF-twitter + holes where other conversations used to be The LinkedIn types are the squares of wax paper between slices

I was joking before about the LinkedInification but damn it’s happened really rapidly. Newcheck permissioning effect? 🤔

Don’t mean to be mean to LinkedIn people. The opposite. Me… friend…. FRIEND

LinkedIn people trigger my otherwise very weak protector instincts They just so obviously need to be protected from harsh reality. They exist in a kind of precious-innocence zen mode They will inherit the earth after we sinners have destroyed each other

I first noticed this happening around the time Twitter began aggressively switching people over to the algo feed (maybe ~6mo-1yr ago). Before that, felt like people tweeted about relatively uncorrelated topics, lots of cozytweeting, etc. Not so much now.

sometimes i wish there were timeline forks based on trending topics so all the ppl who wanna talk about FTX could just go there and have a blast, and my timeline will be free but to your point, in this weird phase, it’d be a pretty empty timeline
