With NN I was in favor of ending it because real information diffs between packets (real-time video vs async text for eg) was increasingly making end-to-end principle a tortured kind of idealism.
Here the “bots” reason feels manufactured

The debate was over like 7-10y ago. Streaming video turns NN into garbage. The modern internet simply cannot work in NN ways. You end up in extreme and expensive architectural contortions. It was a good principle for its time.

It is that too but by being leaving them free to use better tech that’s actually worth more, not rent-seeking from same tech. We’ve gone from 28 mbps dialup to streaming HD, with RT online HD gaming on the way.
