In my case, parents in 80s are good/bad at different aspects. Father more patiently figures out more things out of necessity, but mother has better intuitions esp on social usage. Comparison distorted my latter being quite deaf so not big on audio usages.

I find the routine use of notional “grandma” to represent elderly digital incompetence/illiteracy strangely off. In a larger sample I think elderly women have actually adopted devices better. Wonder if there are studies on this.

A lot of boomers are just slightly too young to have been in the workforce when “computer programmer” was women’s work, which is in turn a single generation from “computer” having been women’s work.
