In Shenzhen, it's not a hard req, but I've been doing one nearly every day for the past few months. Bounced between 48-72 hours for most public spaces 2021, but safer to keep a 24-hour code in 2022. Also, big lines are a thing but not ubiquitous

Was just in Wuhan and, compared to a visit earlier this year, everybody was masked and taking their 24-hour codes seriously. Last visit was very lax on both, this time masks during outdoor walks were the norm

Yes, accessible through WeChat mini-apps as well, but each province has its own app 🤣 for Chinese nationals they're all connected, but it's not so easy for foreigners in the country
