What are some rate-triggered phenomena, that are only triggered if you’re moving above or below a certain speed? Any domain… eg “sleep/awake” in biology, the bus bomb in Speed (for young un’s who haven’t seen the movie: activated above 55mph/detonated if you fall below)

Particularly interested in persistent states with a necessary speed/ceiling floor rather than edge-triggered events. Ie sleep or wakefulness rather than bombs. In sleep, moving average heart rate is a good rate measure. If it’s hovering in a narrow band around RHR you’re asleep.

Too many of us lie to ourselves about backburner activities that are actually decaying because they are not being pursued above entropy heat-death rate

Many sports have rate rules:
- chess clocks
- over-rate in cricket
SAG has “acting rate” for speaking roles to maintain insurance/membership status iirc

The Expanse has a “speed limit” thing that happens, due to alien physics/tech.
Also, does “the spice must flow” count as a minimum rate of change? 😀
