Lol. Even the Economist is getting in on management consultant bashing. Cc
I gotta switch to so@e other title. McKinsey has ruined the word for everyone. view.e.economist.com/?qs=1459eef638

I’m switching to independent researcher. Overdue gearshift anyway.

Damn. I might need to buy this issue.

The great irony is that I think the Economist is in the same category of entities as McKinsey. I like bits and pieces of both but it’s all part of the old literary-industrial complex.

There is literally no respectable title available to me. It all sounds shady:
“Independent consultant” (= low-level huckster)
“Independent researcher” (= crackpot)
“Blogger” (= “couldn’t land a book deal”)
“Dr.” (= “couldn’t land a tenured job, huh?”)

Maybe everyone is just an entrepreneur or an investor now?
It's like those job titles like "Retail Film Archivist" for Blockbuster employees.
So: "Consulting Entrepreneur" or "Thought Investor" :D

I think you work too much and actually care about stuff*** to be an investor, so "entrepreneur" it is.
*** I know you're really trying to hide it, but you do :-)

Glad it looks that way. Plus nowhere near investor-level net worth right now. Aiming for “house-poor” in 2023

Oh these titles aren't about actually being the thing you're called. They're about having the right vibe on your social.
Most of these "investors" are like Robinhood/Coinbase cruisers, or people perpetually "raising a fund".
