Extended universe construction techniques are like the reinforced concrete of narrative. The record for tallest building in the world only went up 10% in the 4500y before reinforced concrete (Great Pyramid to Ulm Minster ~1890). Then shot up 5x in just 100y (Burj Khalifa)

This is one of the most interesting random facts I know.
480 feet to 540 feet in 4500 years
Then 540 feet to 2717 feet in just over 100y
I’d like to compare total byte count of say the Mahabharata (probably longest ancient fiction) to that of full production info of MCU

For it to be a fair comparison, you’d have to include not just the screenplays and source comic books, but all the info/documentation for costumes, camera, sets, etc. I’d guess the raw byte count is at least 5x.

I stand corrected. This Mongolian epic is 2.5x Mahabharata.
I’m a raw word count admirer. Quantity has a quality all its own etc.

Why should you try to tell the biggest stories you can at the technological limit? Because you can. Also stress test the limit of the biggest idea the human head can hold.

Storytelling is about efficiency of insight and idea, not “bigness”. Our imagination does the scaling/exploding/projecting, which in turn transforms our perspective and then our reality, which is literally the whole power and purpose of storytelling.
