What the longest you’ve ever had an unfinished project be dormant before being successfully revived and taken to an outcome (eg partial book draft that sat untouched for 10y, then actually got finished and published). Share both duration and specifics/details that add color

Read recently in one of his letters that Guy Davenport routinely worked on short stories for about 2 years, and sometimes much longer, before he considered sharing or publishing them

I have unfinished projects going back 50 years. Dozens of them. None have ever made it to completion. Ecuse me, there's something shiny over there and it probably has great potential.

i didn’t reply because the revived project hasn’t officially worked out yet (but very positive responses from other researchers so far)—but worked on something for like 4yrs off/on, then dropped it, then figured out how to continue after 3yrs

They do not do this, no. For me, I don't count projects I abandon for the short term, like a couple of months, due to other priorities. If it's been a year, I might pick it back up, but no chance of finishing. The time I spend on it once I pick it back up is exponential backoff
