What tricks do you use to pre-compensate/build slack for known or highly probable future compromised states (illness, emotional compromise etc)
Eg: don’t make decisions while depressed, add a few days of schedule slack to accommodate jet lag, etc

Never start a new long-term project when I have excess energy. Anything I need to commit to long term should be started when I'm at baseline or below, because that tells me I actually have capacity for it.

Reaching late stage motor neuron disease, needing to find a way to bank high mental acuity days. Mostly about building a team to compensate.

Don’t tweet angry.
Otherwise I’m mostly accommodating the suboptimal states of people around me.

don’t make decisions while depressed is a great one
if i'm feeling out of sorts, go for a long walk and see if that helps
definitely the jet lag one is helpful
biggest thing is just to listen to my body. generally build affordances around that

- building a strong relationship with long term friends most effective to minimize compromised states (freq & magnitude)
- break away from business and see if it keeps running
- building internal equanimity; I do meditation
- don’t work weekends; build slack that you can use

One week rule when arriving anywhere assumed nothing getting done thought have not need that much lately. Also 48 hours in new location to not decide anything.
Make a lot of stuff not dependent on my time because of health stuff.
Sleep on consulting projects for 1-2 days

I usually only generate goals I’ll commit to every seventh week now when im usually downshifting work for the week. Try to constrain goals to six weeks too.
