this project to reintroduce cheetahs into india is kinda wild... though the reintroduced ones are african, not the same subspecies as the asiatic cheetah that was extirpated (a few still exist in Iran I guess -- fell from 84 to 12 in the last decade)

cheetahs were heavily bottlenecked during one of the high glaciations, they have negligible genetic diversity and that's been true for 10,000 years no meaningful difference in other words, unlike the lion
