My 80-year-old mom apparently spent part of the pandemic getting back into drawing for the first time since the 50s. Apparently drawing was one of her subjects through high school. I had no idea.

She’s surprisingly good… she’s been drawing from random photos, a few from life, and some exercises from a book etc. I left behind a book and sketch pad last trip randomly and she’s half filled it.

She’s also invented a new improv art… painting the leftover terracotta lamps from Diwali/Kartik and decorating them with glitter and stuff scavenged from rakhis (this is less surprising to me since she used to dabble in this kind of thing when I was a kid)

Funny how the pandemic revealed random new sides of people you thought you knew

This might be a nice gift for her, my mom liked it (including the workbook)

Love this. Art is exactly the kind of thing that is intimidating to pick up again, too many think it’s frivolous
