I had somehow never read this famously overambitious document (“let’s solve the AI problem over the summer in 1956”) before now. In 2022, the opening summary is very funny, but the subsequent details are sobering.

The proposal for the 1956 Dartmouth AI summer workshop is dated Aug 31, 1955, exactly sixty seven years ago today. The oldest recorded use of the term "Artificial Intelligence". raysolomonoff.com/dartmouth/boxa

What’s sobering is reading the detailed proposals of the project participants. They lay out essentially all the major research topics that AI has been confined to up until today. There have been no big new ideas in the field since 1955. It’s just fiddling with technical details.
