Continuing my 90s binge, rewatching Twister

This needs a reboot with newer storm chaser gizmos. Maybe suicide drones that fly into the tornado
The great thing about this movie is how they’ve managed to give each tornado a personality
1. Thrilling ride
2. Dancing beauty
3. Trickster with mean streak
4. Ominous Dark Lord out to get you
… the Fujita scale F5 macguffin is a nice bit of flavor but they don’t let it lead

The finale with the F5 is interesting… starts out as the baddest malevolent anthropomorphic beast that apparently punishes hubris of nominal villain team headed by princess bride guy but then Team Science gets the sensors in and it’s just another impersonal force of nature.

Unlike say Jaws or even Jurassic Park they manage to tell the story of anthropomorphic projection and narrativization AND convey the science excitement. Dead father/near-miss aunt motives are kept distinct from sciencing the tornado

Climax of both of them getting to see up the eye of the funnel to blue sky and achieve some sort of spiritual communion with the antagonist-turned-impersonal-force is nearly done.
Nice touch calling the can of sensors “Dorothy”… nice antithesis movie to wizard of oz

This might be the perfect 90s movie. The only false note is the bad guy corporate team with their higher tech and more money and black vans… hangover of 80s cliche bad guys. Almost unnecessary and could have been written better.

I liked the bit where the hero survived a tornado by shackling himself to an immovable object because it's definitely being sucked into the air that kills you rather than being impaled by the debris spinning around at 200mph
