I’ve heard West Wing (1999-2006!) described as star trek for leftie politics nerds. Are there other examples of such “social science fiction” and who are they for? I’d say Yellowstone is social science fiction for rich conservatives? Mad Men was basically for Ayn Randians?

To me, an assumption like “almost all humans are kind and empathetic” is less plausible than warp drive. Aspirational social ethoses assume an archetype that 30% of population might fit at a stretch can extend to 95%
