Anyone know of data describing where the west coast homeless population came from? Ie statistics on what they were doing and where they were living before they fell through the cracks? What’s the prequel world feeding into sidewalk tent world?

When I was homeless it was commonly accepted that The West Coast was the best place to be homeless. better weather mostly (rain vs freezing to death), but also some places will give you food stamps easier and it's there's more pockets of nature to camp in than East Coast cities

SF has some stats about 70% being housed in San Francisco beforehand, but not sure if other cities. Some good info in this report, but my understanding is it’s basically housing prices. hsh.sfgov.org/wp-content/upl

Despite popular ideas, I recall seeing a survey showing the majority of homeless in California are from the state.

Have a look at Soft White Underbelly YouTube channel. Lots of open interviews of homeless in LA skid row. Childhood abuse followed by opiate addiction, with some mental illness.
