AI creations have probably already turned into an oversaturated market where low technical barriers to entry + large numbers of unskilled people making them devalue any work produced in that genre, and we’re going to see that situation happen more in the future as well.

I don’t think so. Arguably the AI generated image market doesn’t actually exist at all yet. It’s all experimental fun, but just short of crossing the line into either being substitutes for human-made commercial art you’d pat for, or it’s own new thing.

I track the experiments and my pfp is AI generated, but I wouldn’t try to buy either routine art needs (book covers, stock art) from AI sources. The fine art end is getting really good, hence the NFT boom there, but that’s a fringe market.

Yeah, I was thinking of fringe markets. Right now the relatively mainstream interest in AI generative tools feels potentially dangerous to me in a way I can’t quite pin down, & I’m trying to figure out why. I don’t think it’s because of any hypothetical capabilities of the tools.
