the problem is of course it takes skill to throw money at problems strategically and actually land the shot... which is not itself a problem you can throw money at easily

and people tend to throw $1000 where $1500 is required, and end up losing the whole $1000 because it is a waste...

I'm not great at *making* money, but I'm better at that than at non-money hacks, so when faced with a problem that is "Spend $1000 and find a way to make +$1000 to cover it" vs. "do this janky non-money thing" I'll always choose former unless the +$ is beyond my ability to make

There is also cutting back elsewhere to cover things somewhere, but there's only so much discretionary spend you can cut in a lifestyle budget, so I generally don't try that route
