“Reactionary” doesn’t point to resistance to resets when experiments fail. It points to fetish for an idealized abstract pasts posed as successful. I have no issue declaring Google+ failed and rewinding to email. I raise eyebrow if you claim “democracy failed, retvrn to monarchy”
My reading may be idiosyncratic but think reactionary implies Hobbsian-like society emphasizing material causes, and the alternative (proactionary? radical?) emphasizes final causes, agency, teleology.
Extreme of former is "just do it", extreme of latter is endless deliberation.
