I donāt care if a thousand idiots in a captured academic field of mutual congratulation are writing journal articles at each other using a self-important internal lingo. If you canāt demonstrate your relevance in *public* terms of reference you deserve to be ignored.

Not just accessible but relevant. Engineering has a natural advantage in that tech produces artifacts you can use whether or not you understand how they work. I donāt need you to study navier stokes equations before complaining about airlines. The airplane itself is ārelevanceā

I think Iāve read pieces by a couple of people in the thread, yes. But my basic attitude is: leave your credentials and references to your prestigious field and profound work at the door when you enter the public arena. Show me what I can value without all that.

That is not my complaint. Iām specifically objecting to āthereās a whole field of studyā as a line of defense/attack. That specific phrase makes me flip the bozobit on scholars.

Well my solution to that is to ignore Ezra Klein š
If he can get the NYT to to publish inane opinions, Iām fine with it. If you guys canāt compete in the public meme wars, and his shit crowds out better ideas, Iāll just break out the popcorn and write your entire field off.
