Can generosity of spirit be taught? If so how?
As in, looking for the best in people, giving them the benefit of doubt for motives, spotting their talents etc.
I’ve rarely seen people flip polarities on this trait.
make them consider benefits of self-compassion, which can heal long-held traumas and unlock potential. Eventually, mettā for the self becomes a gateway to mettā for others and vice versa.
I suspect this is rarely possible. Sounds like people already inclined this way will develop the trait further, but 99% of those inclined against are out of reach barring weird circumstances
How do you convince people to study calculus? Or literary theory? How do you convince people to exercise? How do you convince people to donate to charity? Is the question really: how do we make people want to be taught generosity of spirit? If the want it, we know how to.
