The sun blinked out for like 2s in a sharp dimming a few minutes ago, like eclipse level, not passing cloud. I was like wtf, and went out to balcony to check, and turns out it was a giant blimp passing low right beneath noon-ish sun nearish solstice right above us. Very dramatic

For a second I thought “solar flare something something” then “aliens” Funny how there are no small, opaque, fast clouds. We’re not used to rapid square wave dimming of the sun. Even a total eclipse is a slow ramping rhombus occlusion with a decently long plateau.

This is an experience that people must have had in the 1920s and '30s but I don't remember ever reading an account. Sounds very cool.
