Real 4th world when poor baristas have to learn this shit
“Stroud and Nelson said the company would implement a long list of measures, including training in de-escalation, active-shooter situations, mental health and first aid, and closing restrooms and even entire locations.”

Seattle had worse issues in the Starbucks I used to frequent downtown. Almost every third/fourth visit featured an awkward or dangerous homeless incident.
LA too but now I only go to a nice location in upscale Los Feliz where you mostly get non-problem homeless people

Feel bad for service sector employees. They are doing unpaid shadow labor as untrained police. But I guess bars and saloons always had a security aspect. It’s just hit the daytime stimulant scene as well. Bouncers maybe?

Can confirm this isn’t an excuse though. The locations listed are terrible. I’d shut them down too.

You might give some of the newer Korean cafes a go. Cafes in Korea are pretty hip and some of that seems to have filtered to US.

only the west coast thinks starbucks is The Third Place
i'm not sure if that's because starbucks is different/better on the west coast, or the west coast is lacking in other options (pubs, churches, third wave cafes, etc.)
