These are interesting observations, but I don’t think lack of a counterculture has much to do with them. Counterculture hasn’t existed for 30 years except as pockets of larping. This is a new thing. ht

Really? Doesn't seem all that interesting or relevant to culture to me. Looks like a lazy list looking in all the old places for new ideas...
No mention of video games, discord, twitch or TikTok. Reads like an old substack dude complaining nothing is interesting anymore

[not to be too hard on the guy but]
Excellent listicle. Great content. Would recommend refocusing as "signs you've lost touch with The Counterculture" to drive reader engagement, creates potential for "How To Reconnect" sidebar with affiliate, discuss with marketing.

“Fog in the Channel - Continent cut off”. There’s plenty counterculture. It’s just not in the same places that influenced the author of this article in the past. Look to Shenzhen and Lagos, gaming and streaming - not London and NYC, guitars and magazines…

"Movies, music, and other creative pursuits are increasingly evaluated on financial and corporate metrics, with all other considerations having little influence"
Not too much 'increasingly', Adorno wrote about this in his 1953 Jazz essay, W. Benjamin already back in the 1930s.
