I think I can instruct people to make the sound mechanically but I don’t think they can hear it
I have similar issues with v/w. I can mechanically produce the difference but hear it unreliably at best
The mouth and upper respiratory tract evolved a ton (along with our brains) as language evolved, so not really. Just because something comes phylogenetically later doesn't make it a "bolt-on" (avian wings)
