Occasionally you get a sharp reminder of the mind-boggling amounts of bullshit and ignorance in actual tradition, and the vast sewage oceans of misery it sustains through shitty “Lindy” copes. And then the absurdity of postmodern performative trad-larping really hits you.

I’ll take intellectual-yet-idiot non-Lindy fragilista bullshit over toxic cesspool trad bullshit any day.
I suspect most people who fetishize trad life have simply never encountered anything close to the real thing. It is eternally churning brain-melting miserable shittiness.

Much of what passes for “trad” in the modern imagination is a heavily edited and stylized descendent of wealthy and nice bits of traditional life, discretely augmented with select bits of convenient modernity. You see nothing of the deep piles of shit on which it used to rest.

We are now so attuned to the clear-and-present problems of modernity, and so removed from the ugly realities of tradition, we’ve become blind to the real merits of modernity and seduced by romantic fan-fictions of tradition.

An abbreviation of "the Lindy effect", where things which have been around a long time are likely to stay around for a long time.
A decent heuristic, Christianity has been around for so long for a reason, right? But vgr points out in common usage it often justifies bad beliefs

to be fair, I think a decent amount of what is terrible in tradition that I've personally encountered stems from reaction to modernity and is hence 'modern' itself
