Which town? The City is Chicago proper. “Chicagoland” embraces all of Cook County, the inner ring close suburbs (ex Cicero) and even suburbs on the other side of the collar county borders. Largely bc it’s all built in suburbs now tied together by expressways

That’s not a great way to describe Illinois peculiar politics which has a city-suburban-downstate axis, a racial axis, a partisan axis, a Machine factional axis (which intersects with the racial axis but only partially) There’s also a bipartisan corruption axis (“the Combine”)

The existence of a political Machine in the state’s largest city for about 90 years (since Anton Cermak) which in turn had a relationship with the Chicago Outfit has warped the evolution of politics here in a way that few other states can match for corrupt weirdness (La is one)

Oh boy Chicago is currently my plan b city if plan a to move back to Seattle gets too pricey, but this sounds very complicated to navigate LA is easier since people kinda leave each other alone in the sprawl and it’s decentralized architecture/urban planning

There are some nice neighborhoods. I see you as a Lincoln Park guy but there are other good neighborhoods out there too. Real estate market has been tight if you are buying in the city this year

It’s younger demographically and more cosmopolitan, good restaurants and shops in walking distance. Pretty pleasant and near Lakefront. Spent a lot of time there in my late 30’s and early 40’s Depends though what you are looking for - if you have a school age child = big factor

Will be looking for suburban SFH if we end up there. We’re officially too old for downtown or condo/apt life probably. Wife is sick of it at least. Question is if we can afford to level up in this market.
