Long term survival and thriving is a perfectly fine pice of solid evidence—even if in some case you need to look in detail into the pressures it survived and possible biases of the pressures. The real problem with the US now are the anti-constitutionalist hysterics.

Slavery was needed for labor back then. All successful societies of the past had slaves. After industrialization, it was just not a good or profitable idea to have slaves. Had industrialization existed in the 1700s, we wouldn't be having the stupid slavery discussion now.

Why would southern states sign on to a constitution that made slavery Illegal if they were willing to go on a bloody civil war 80 years later?
