Does feel like platform era is peaking and headed towards mature decline plateau at best. The one true wildcard is AR/VR, which needs a FAANG-scale treasure chest to pursue.

My current practice re: social platforms is to 1 diversify, and 2 try to not fund them. Don't allow any one to own you or any of your pairwise connections. (Yes, I've looked at cord-cutting, federated, SSB, POSSE, and so on. Yes, YMMV. No, I am not saying this works great.) twitter.com/AmandaSeitz/st…

Web3 has/had both the ideological hostility and technology levers to break up FAANG in a way purely political hostiles like AOC left or gab-right don’t, but it doesn’t yet have a strategy. It’s more a beef fueled by decentralization manifesto derp than a substitution derp.

Lack of strategy is true, but it’s got the ultra-Darwinian open innovation thing going for it. Implicitly doesn’t lend itself to monopoly tho.

This seems rather like claiming the Vanguard Party orchestrated the 1917 revolution rather than surfing that particular wave to the top. If “Web3” (whatever that is, exactly) becomes associated with the undoing of FAANG, I expect it will have had a lot of help from other forces.
