relatedly some big basketball game is going on, and I’m reminded of how my sports fan mutuals turn into aliens from another planet on sportsball days
paywalls kinda turn everything into that mode
and yes I recognize the irony of me being a paywall hustler myself

making me think about the unit economics like say somebody charges $25-35 for a book wherein they write about something but you can always get the content out from the library and see what it says; purely-digital paywalled content assumes some inherent utility

In response to tpdw effect, I try to be intentional about seeking out and reading material that does not appear in usual places where I find things
and try to be more active about sharing things I’ve read or watched that have been interesting, thought-provoking, or just amusing.

It's an infuriating UX fail. I'd happily pay a few bucks for a good article if there was a low friction way...but subscription, nah
