Current casualty estimates just for Russia (roughly 15-25k) already reaches their casualty rates for their 10 year Afghan occupation. These rates could put Ukraine in the 10k range depending on how much worse these loss rates are compared to before the heavy shift to Donbas.

The last time US saw sustained casualties like that would be 1968, where we had 16,899 dead for ~46/day. The worst week was 543, or ~77/day. For reference US killed for the whole Iraq war was 4,507.
