Surely it’s a bit facile to just restate two common assumptions about public life? It’s more interesting to explore how they might be related (that’s if you accept both points as either true or novel)

You shouldn’t necessarily fire someone for making a mistake doing what they were hired to do, as they’ve just learned a good lesson (and you paid for it) A pattern of transgressions that drive good people out OTOH is very much fireable. Creates the environment for more mistakes
