If you, personally, succeed at “we are as gods, and might as well get good at it” the test won’t be that *you* feel godly, but that those who appear godly to you today will seem human. And both deifying and demonizing others will seem like not-even-wrong mental modeling.

Ironically, gods tend to be dull to humans. We tend to only find beings at our own level *interesting* as opposed to awesome (old sense), fearsome, etc. So becoming a god means trading comforting but boring views of exceptional people for disturbing but interesting ones.
