Of course you don't have to use fancy words when you are writing.
But if you want to toss in a well-placed gem from time to time, what's the harm?

Now I'm not saying you should grab a thesaurus and try to jam in a bunch of ridiculous words you rarely use to try to sound smart.
And jargon or industry-speak is YICK at best, or gatekeeping at its core.
Using words to try to "be" something will result in nothing.

The secret to using more exciting words in your writing is to start using more exciting words in your own vocabulary.
This makes it more natural - you're simply using the word arrows in your well-loved writing quiver.

Recently, I was chatting with a group of content creators and I mentioned a *current kerfuffle* happening in the media, and the group just about lost their minds.
"That's such a good word!" "I'm gonna use that as a prompt this week." "Why don't we use words like that anymore?"

If you are a word nerd, get that geekdom going.
Don't over-do it, but don't be scared-to-do it either.
