Need a term for self-employed people that work completely solo, self-fund, and don’t have spouse income or healthcare. Have realized this is quite rare in the US.
It’s surprising to me how soon people bring on assistants even at much lower earning than me.

I think some of my beliefs on this path have been
- need to make more than I spent every year
- should learn to do everything myself and that will give more options and freedom long term
Starting to loosen up on two. I know how to do too much haha

I don’t really care good or bad if others have it easier but for me I’ve found that playing solo and funding myself fully and not digging into savings has been a great challenge that has made me understand what I value and enables me to be quite happy because I know what I want

I sense others when they become self-employed sort of imagine themselves as businesses right away. I sort of rejected this and saw myself as just a guy trying to make my way by any means possible.

In the next year I may hire some very part time support and will likely have 2nd income support coming in. This will definitely make things easier for sure but I don’t think I would have changed anything for my first 5 years of solopreneurship. Tested limits on every direction

My beliefs aren’t quite so admirable though
- my shtick isn’t worth scaling
- packaging processes is annoying
- supervising non-artistic work is dull
- I don’t want to work hard

Hahaha definitely feel 3 and 4
I think I’ve pushed on 2 type stuff because you keep saying I’ll get old and will want to do less.

I think you said this last year and it probably made me more ambitious on the money side. Want to push a little harder until 40 at least. If I hit some jackpot I’ll help fund vgretirement

👀👀 this whole thread.
Planning for the next 20 years of solo indie income (supporting a family too!) leads you to some more aggressive stances I believe.
