Also batman got way poorer. He has fancy contacts but otherwise the bat cave is like a shitty junkyard maker shop. Selina Kyle is now impoverished third world sadcase

Gotta admire how well they’ve got the execution down though. They can nail the look and sound and vibes they want even if the actual choices aren’t great.

“It could tear the whole city apart” “Jesus, this is a powder keg” The writing is… not great. Very on-the-nose and simple, unironic cliche train. This is an all-vibes-no-lore Batman. It assumes you know the lore and if you don’t, can do without.

I suspect this movie would be visually impossible 20y ago. Devices wouldn’t have the fine darks gamut to show such a palette. Dark 80s movies were more high contrast or something.

Maybe I’m finally too old for superhero movies. This is the 4th batman incarnation I’m living through (counting all the 80s/90s ones as one)

Not my experience at all, I found it to be fun all the way thru. It frames Bruce as a competent & convicted crusader but also deeply awkward and alienated. Selina, Gordon, Oswald, falcone, riddler all try to get him to smile but homeboy cannot let himself drop the act. Love it.

I loved season 1 of The Flash when the vibe was, “woah, this guy who just destroyed downtown has an awesome power, wish I could do that!” But then season 2 came around and The Flash went into cliche “I’m powerful so I can’t be close with anybody because that would endanger them”
