Watching The Batman
Not really able to get into it so far. It’s like a cross product of Burton+Nolan versions that tries way too hard. Cranks up to 11, especially on audio-visual stylings. They’re not even calling him Batman. Just ‘vigilante’ and he calls himself vengeance.

This is extreme baroque self-parody. I want the cycle to reset to adam west mode. Actual parody.

Also batman got way poorer. He has fancy contacts but otherwise the bat cave is like a shitty junkyard maker shop.
Selina Kyle is now impoverished third world sadcase

Gotta admire how well they’ve got the execution down though. They can nail the look and sound and vibes they want even if the actual choices aren’t great.

The writing is… not great. Very on-the-nose and simple, unironic cliche train.
This is an all-vibes-no-lore Batman. It assumes you know the lore and if you don’t, can do without.

I suspect this movie would be visually impossible 20y ago. Devices wouldn’t have the fine darks gamut to show such a palette. Dark 80s movies were more high contrast or something.

The shirtless spray-can floor graffiti mind map scene is just completely ludicrous

Maybe I’m finally too old for superhero movies. This is the 4th batman incarnation I’m living through (counting all the 80s/90s ones as one)

This is peak overcompensation for Joel Schumacher
