I think you have to distinguish Sensate decay from Ideational decay to use Sorokin’s terms. New York had a trough and peak of Sensate decay/revival and is now in terminal Ideational decay. SF, LA, Seattle, Portland are still Ideationally alive, but in a deepening Sensate trough

I don’t think New York is the archetypal “real city” anymore. It’s entered its mannerist-baroque phase. A sign is that shows set in New York now seem like parodies of shows set in New York.

It only seems that way when they don’t film on location. Mr. Robot looks amazing because they mostly shot on the street
