You’re right about academia but the existence of the web is a counterexample. Lowering the cognitive overhead by choosing not to solve certain problems is how we get mass adoption. It’s about going with the grain of humanity (as @bradneuberg described: codinginparadise.org/ebooks/html/bl )

In my case “marketing” is a problem I gave up trying to solve for anything I do ~2012. The payoff is sustainable illegibility at least at personal/small-collaborator-group scale.
