You have really high expectations of life 🤨

Like it should be a tasteful well-produced, big-budget movie or extended universe that makes sense and where everyone has meaningful motives and hero’s journeys etc, and everyone is well cast in the right roles for them.

With those expectations, religion is your only answer and if you can’t buy into that you’re ngmi. The alt is to radically lower expectations 🤣

Yep. Fwiw almost nobody I know has the kind of ideal friend you seem to want. Some people just have intimate heart-to-heart buddies the way some have tennis buddies. I-h2hs don’t actually serve sensemaking/hyping functions you crave anymore than tennis. Just illusions thereof.

If those friendships actually worked they way you seem to think, you'd have your life a lot more figured out by now than you seem to. IME, most people actually have breakthroughs when they ditch one group of friends for another. You've got the causality backwards.

ie, people tend to choose friends who will validate the answers you already have, rather than help you find the ones you need. You change friends when those answers stop working and the validations start sounding hollow.

This is why moving to a new place is powerful. You get to ditch old certainties, and test out relatively new ones, in the company of people who are also new to them. If you move to a new place but seek to hang on to old truths, it's kinda a wasted life dislocation.

And as for actually finding candidate new life truths to live by, other people are generally useless. They can only help you validate, test, and either keep or discard them after you find them. But again, that's just my experience and what I've witnessed.
