I think I finally figured out what seems misconfigured about the “vibes” discourse. To use Pitrim Sorokin’s terminology, it is a Sensate culture (US+China centric) trying to respond coherently about a primarily Ideational shift (global) and failing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitirim_S

at least in this part of twitter I think vibes is largely about finding belonging in spite of all the centrifugal forces pulling us apart
if you think of belonging as a precondition to collective intelligence & purposeful action then the configuration seems bang on

I… don’t
In fact I think belongingness breeds suspension of intelligence, collective or otherwise, and surrenders to purposelessness
is this a fundamental aspect of belongingness itself or how to many groups belonging might result in those things?
could a group or community foster belongingness without suspending intelligence or surrendering to purposelessness?

haha fair enough I see that too
I think unbelongingness puts most people into a kind of anxious seizure oscillating between mania & depression, I need to save the world but wait I'm a powerless loser etc

How about a different relationship in different contexts:
No belongingness in vaccine production.
Some belongingness in military engagements (ie morale)
A lot of belongingness for some big-issue start-ups.
Appropriate and contextual use of vibes and belonging wrt large-scale.
