this makes me think... newton must have noticed rainbow artifacts from imperfect (optically/geometrically) glass objects of the 17th century and decided to investigate... modern glass is high quality, geometrically near perfect etc.

I'm house/pet sitting for neighbor + they have perfume bottle(?) in the window with prism base that casts rainbows throughout the kitchen/living room in the morning (rn it's on the couch). Purple is gorgeous, photo unfortunately shows "enhanced" colors, not sure how to override.

Have my Abrams Discoveries Newton book with me, talks about prism work. "In the beginning of the Year 1666...I procured me a Triangular glass-Prisme [sic], to try therewith the celebrated Phenomena of Colours...very pleasing divertissement...consider them more circumspectly."
