I do wonder if the significance of the Dugin mythology is overstated. He makes for good Rasputin drama, but the whole thing is a bit too lurid.

I suspect he’s just a more scholarly version of Bannon or Cummings. A useful idiot for Putin. Since Putin is more complex and capable than either Trump or BoJo, and selling a more complex line, he needs a more complex and capable ideological stooge

he’s given a bit too much weight, but also ”While Dugin urged for a united Ossetia and a deep annexation of Ukraine to create a Novorossiya, the Kremlin had far more limited goals and actions.” Better analogy is maybe the warbloggers back in the oughts who had the ear of gov.
