it is unpredictable and intermittent, sometimes lots of blinks offs in a minute, other times, goes 10-15 min. Happens in both hdmi ins of monitor :(... only thing I could think of was "turn display off after" setting which is at 15min, and it happens even when I'm active anyway

also thought might be a power supply thing and moved monitor off strip to a direct wall outlet, but still happens

This might be it. There's no display rate setting for Dell monitor, but there is one for the laptop screen that I suspect carries over, and it's set to "ProMotion" which is some sort of adaptive thing. I turned it to 60 hz, let's see if that helps.

Go to display settings and make sure the refresh rate is set to a fixed value, and not variable.

this seems to be working so far, but fingers crossed... sometimes it goes for like 15-20 minutes without blinking. As some discussion suggests it seems to also have something to do with the contrast in the in-focus app. Things mess up when you go from light to dark or something.

Nope... still an issue. Went to a darker screen app and it blinked off briefly. Let's see if this works if I stay in light/day mode apps only for a while and if I can reproduce the color dependency.

Tried this now. Seems to have helped a bit. Looks like it's a combination of factors. It's an analog problem pretending to be a digital one.

I had the same! I solved by increasing contrast - bizarre but it went away right at 80% contrast or higher

Okay, fingers crossed... switched to a newer HDMI cable and so far it isn't flickering. Packaging says it can handle 60hz+ implying older ones couldn't? Will also try to switch back to ProMotion and see if that works.
