Predictable responses 🤬
I'm officially sick of all this vibing and big mood and tone shit.
Vibe supremacists suck and the world they are trying to create is boring.
At this rate, somebody will publish a sequence of notes paired with a swatch of colors and call it a story. Blech.
Return of semantically sharp-edged kiki stuff. That's what I want.
Vibes are atemporal and ergodic. The order and arrangement of items in a type-of-guy vibe-set meme or mood board doesn’t matter. There’s no story to a vibe. No latent causal drive or active temporality. There’s nowhere to go from a vibe. It doesn’t matter that vibes don’t point.
Curiously enough, so-called cozy murder mysteries (Christie/Poirot) are all about kiki murdering bouba. Logic puncturing moods and vibes.
The characters are caught up in some bullshit bouba vibe that suits the murderer. Poirot comes along and punctures it with kiki insight.
Holmesian mysteries that came just before the cozy era proper are very vibey. Especially early ones. Hound of Baskervilles etc are vibe puddles. The Holmes mysteries are actually very unsatisfying as whodunits. After Holmes’ kiki parlor tricks the story proper is usually bouba.
Holmes is very vibey type-of-guy… heroin, pipe, Persian slipper, violin, chemistry, cigarette ash monographs…
Poirot is pure modernist. A better logician than Holmes.
Vastly prefer Poirot.
