2 robot news things struck me this year: Mall robots programmed to detect and avoid groups of little children because they tend to beat up on them Delivery robots stuck in snowed over sidewalks in Europe asking passing adults to help them This is Third Law of Robotics (beta)

In hindsight it makes sense 3rd law (self-protection) would be first. It’s the easiest and also highest level in subsumption stack. 2nd law (following orders) is harder to program in intelligent form so is primitive right now. 1st law is hardest and is just safety rules now

We should definitely do 2nd law, but hear me out… maybe first law can be limited to just part 1 (a robot shall not harm a human) and we ditch part 2 (or through inaction allow a human to come to harm).

THIS Although you gotta distinguish between those annoying robots that even annoy other robots & all of human ethics re-emerge Some robots will be golden-retriever charismatic, while others will be tiny yappers that have been bred from wolves down to unsustainably tiny frames

You can judge a person by how they treat their “inferiors” (pets, servants, homeless, etc). Today I witnessed somebody verbally abusing our chat bot.
